Writing Workshops
I offer numerous writing workshops for grades K-9, combining my teaching and writing backgrounds to model strategies that really work in the classroom. Some of my more popular workshops are briefly described below, but I also tailor workshops to specific classes, needs and situations. If you desire more information about these workshops or wish to book workshops, please contact me directly. Alberta teachers may also book workshops in October through the Young Alberta Book Society.
Juicy Details Workshop (Grades 1-6; 45-90 minutes) In this hands-on workshop, I explain and model writing strategies that produce juicy, detailed, sensory writing that students can't wait to share. Topics vary according to grade.
Story Planning Workshop (Grades 1-6; 45-90 minutes) A simple, visual story plan based on the natural shape of a short story is the focus of this popular workshop. Watch how quickly and effectively students plan a short story using this tool for all ages.
Character Creation Workshop (Grades 5-9; 45-90 minutes) What a power trip it is to create a character and breathe life into a fictional being. Stand back as these characters come to life in the classroom in highly unusual ways.
It's All About Choice Workshop (Grades 3-9; 45-90 minutes) Strong choices lead to strong writing. In this hands-on workshop, students learn the importance and thrill of choosing the best word, phrase or image as they produce works that are sure to engage the reader.
Creative Currents Workshop (Grades 1-9; 45-90 minutes) Join me as I engage students in creative thought exercises, stretch their imaginations and problem solving skills, and take an innovative approach to creative writing.
